Did you know that 20% of Albertans are food insecure?
Add on top of that grocery bills going up at an average of 11.9%, parents are making difficult decisions to pay for housing, food or other basic needs for their children. Umoja Community Mosaic is meeting a huge gap in the community by delivering culturally appropriate foods and staples not accessible to many families.
Umoja has a decade of building relationships and trust with newcomer, low income and refugee communities. We know the gaps and we know what it means to feel isolated.
Our food hampers are delivered with dignity and include basic staples and cultural foods.
Mosaic food program honours and fosters the feeling of home and the ability to take care of their families. Foods such as barley, teff, cassava, cous cous, plaintains provide daily nutritious options that can be stretched over time.
With a focus on these culturally relevant staples and produce, we offer a dignified system of meeting daily food needs.
